With the rise of digital media, there are fewer Collector’s Editions of video games than there used to be. However, the big games still have fancy CEs that diehard fans can buy. Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most anticipated games coming out soon, so it shouldn’t be a shock that it will have its own Collector’s Edition. Warner Bros. Interactive recently took the wraps off the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition, showing what it includes and how much it costs at a whopping $299.
Even though it was so expensive, the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition sold out almost as soon as it was available for pre-order. It’s not clear if there will be more chances to buy one before the game comes out in February. Scalpers have taken advantage of the situation by selling the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition online for ridiculously high prices, often around $600, on sites like eBay. This means that Harry Potter fans who didn’t pre-order the Collector’s Edition in the first wave will have to pay twice as much for it.
The good news is that if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, you can also get most of the in-game content from the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition. This includes the Dark Arts Pack, which has a thestral mount, Dark Arts Battle Arena, and exclusive cosmetics. The 72-hour early access period is also available to people who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition or get the Collector’s Edition of the game.
The physical items that come with the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition are the main reason to buy it. The Collector’s Edition comes with a steel case and a real copy of the game (unlike many other Collector’s Editions, which come with a case but not a disc), a life-size floating wand with a book base, and a Collector’s Edition box. Whether or not all of that is worth $300, let alone $600, depends on how excited you are for Hogwarts Legacy. However, the fact that the pre-orders have already sold out shows that many Harry Potter fans are willing to pay more for items like these.
If there are any Collector’s Editions to buy in stores, they will be available on February 7, three days before the base game comes out on February 10. This is true for all versions of Hogwarts Legacy except for the port for the Switch. The Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy will come out at a different time than the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions. As of this writing, a specific date has not been given.
On February 10, Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A version for Nintendo Switch is also in the works.
