Okay, so as we wait for Netflix to release the fourth season of Virgin River, we’re looking forward to the possibility of a fifth season. Surely this is in response to popular demand? Has Virgin River season five been confirmed?
That’s for sure! Netflix announced in July 2021, just two months after Virgin River’s third season premiered, that the show would have a fourth and five seasons.
When Netflix’s VP of original programs, Jinny Howe, announced the news to USA Today, she said: “[With] everything that’s been going on in the globe, people are seeking for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of hope and that feeling of community.
For us, “all of that really came together in a way that seemed very natural, and I think it was more of a demonstration that this is a key area of programming.”

‘Mel Monroe’ actress Alexandra Breckenridge made the sad announcement in early January 2022 that filming for season five had been delayed. She revealed this on Instagram Stories, writing: “Originally, we were meant to begin filming in March… I don’t know what to tell you about it. Honestly, I don’t know.
“Perhaps we’ll get started in the summer. Summer rather than winter filming in Vancouver would be ideal. Filming in Vancouver during the winter is no longer an option for me. That was the last time I’d be interested in doing it.
“It’s very cold outside. In the middle of summer, you’re meant to be outside in sandals and a small outfit. That’s not great!”

Who will star in Virgin River season five?
It’s impossible to predict for sure which characters will appear in season five because we don’t know what occurs in season four (could there be a shock death?). They hope that Mel (Alexandria Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), John (Colin Lawrence), Charmaine/Lauren Hammersley (Hope), and Doc (Annette O’Toole) will be on screen (Tim Matheson). And who knows, there may even be some new blood in the mix?

What might happen in Virgin River season five?
Season four will undoubtedly reveal whether Jack or Mel’s late ex-husband Mark is the biological father of her child, and fans can’t wait to find out. That doesn’t take into account the possibility that Jack might not go through with the plan.
When Paige’s old “friend” poisoned Preacher at the end of season three, it opened the door for her ex-husband Wes to use Christopher as a pawn. Following his arrest for shooting Brie’s brother, Brady thinks he’s been set up. Meanwhile, Hope, who was critically injured in the vehicle crash, is fighting for her life. Every character has a cliffhanger that must be resolved in season four before we can even think about season five.
When might Virgin River season five be released?
Given that filming is slated to begin in spring/summer 2022, it seems highly doubtful that we’ll see anything until the year 2023. Even if it doesn’t happen, fans may look forward to Virgin River season four in the following six months!
