Hunter Moore, who is the focus of the new Netflix documentary The Most Hated Man on the Internet, has responded to the film.
The 36-year-old started IsAnyoneUp.com in 2010, which was the first website for revenge porn. Anyone could upload naked photos anonymously along with their social media handles. At the time, Moore called himself a “professional life-ruiner” and told people on the site to do “their worst” in the comments section under each photo.
Charlotte Laws’s daughter was hurt by the website, and the Netflix documentary follows her as she tries to shut it down. As it says in the official plot summary, “A mother is determined to get her daughter’s pictures off of a revenge porn site, so she starts an online campaign to get rid of the site’s cruel founder.
“Includes emotional, exclusive interviews with women and men who fought to get their pictures taken down, as well as interviews with law enforcement agents who worked on the case and crusaders who fought to get Moore taken down.”
Now, Hunter has responded to The Most Hated Man On The Internet on Twitter, saying that “60% of the documentary is bulls***.”
He put down, “A lot of you have been asking why I didn’t tell my side of the story on the Netflix documentary. At first, we all agreed on the terms, but in the end, they wouldn’t let me tell my side of the story. I had to say what they wanted me to say, so I backed off.
“There are always two sides to a story, and 60% of that Netflix documentary was BS. They never want you to tell or hear the truth.”
In response, director Rob Miller said that Moore is shown in the documentary in a fair way (via Metro). “A lot of the things he said that we used in the series were things he said over and over again in different interviews, so it’s not just a one-time thing he can say, ‘I was drunk,’ so I do think it shows who he was at that time.”
Four years after he started the revenge porn site, in January 2014, Moore was arrested by the FBI and charged with conspiracy, unauthorised access to a protected computer, and aggravated identity theft. Later, he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft and helping someone break into a computer without permission.
He got out of prison in May 2017, and a year later, he self-published a book called Is Anyone Up?! that told everyone what he had done. How revenge porn came to be.
